Dignity in Every Cycle
Clean the Red is our menstrual health and hygiene program that works to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation in Ghanaian schools. Many girls miss up to five days of school each month because they lack access to sanitary pads and proper sanitation facilities, or because of embarrassment and shame.
Our program provides: free sanitary pad distribution to girls in partner schools, menstrual health education workshops for both boys and girls, installation of proper disposal facilities in school washrooms, and training for female teachers to serve as menstrual health mentors.
We have reached over 2,000 girls across 15 schools in the Greater Accra Region. Schools in our program report a 40% reduction in menstrual-related absenteeism. Our long-term goal is to ensure no girl misses school because of her period.
